So, I spent the day dressed like a government agent in E.T. while in 100% humidity...So that was fun

But we got to talk to the guy whose house we fixed up, and being able to help him was amazingly fulfilling. I never get tired of these community service trips, they are probably some of the most worthwhile things I have ever done.

The devastation down here is mindboggling. The city I'm in has had the most efficent local leadership, the most progress in rebuilding, and the most comprehensive planning of any of the places hit by Katrina, and it still looks like the hurricane was a week ago. FEMA is pathetic, and the federal government is just as bad. This is not to say everyone with ties to FEMA is bad because there are competent people who want to help, but on the whole the administration is a bunch of wankers who couldn't empty a bucket of water if the instructions where on the bottom. Best of all the federal government gave an entire city only 2 million dollars to rebuild. I wonder how much it takes to re-build a city in Iraq. The casinos, churches, local officials, local communities, and non-profit groups are keeping this city alive, the federal government is just getting in the way.
