Feb. 1st, 2010 10:22 pmMy day was, for lack of a better term, epic.
So, it starts over the weekend where I worked through Saturday and Sunday at my job.
Then, Sunday night I had massive insomnia and couldn't sleep at all. Finally it became five am and I got out of bed and showered and got ready.
I drove to Boston, took a subway and a bus, after replacing my forgotten charlie card, and started getting ready for my first class, only to be asked to sub second block which I figured, 'What the hell, I'll pass out if I stop anyway.'
So I taught my first class, pretty successful even if the initial discussion was a bit dry, went on to sub for a class second period which was a rousing success (the students asked me to teach them again) and if I do it again in the future I'll get paid. Then third period I had lunch duty for the first time, spending two lunch blocks keeping students from getting into fights and getting them to pick up after themselves. Then I had one free period to plan, followed by my last class which was more challenging but overall the lesson went almost exactly like it was supposed to. After that I debriefed with my teacher and was off.
I then took the crosstown bus to BU, took one class for about an hour and a half, where I got a few interesting lesson ideas and contributed without falling asleep, and then went to my second class where I got a three hour boring lecture on stuff I'd already learned about American history just with a more vaguely anti-American sentiment, and got out at nine o'clock, got food at a local fast food joint that seemed to dissolve the bag onto my lap, took another subway, got to my car, remembered I had no cash, went back and got cash, then drove from Boston to home and typed up this post.
Weirdest part? I'm more giddy than anything. I figure if I can survive this, maybe I'll be okay.
