So, I decided to do the ten fic pairing challenge while waiting for inspiration for chapter three of my crossover fic. First up is Erza/Lucy. Hopefully I'll fill all ten in as I go.
1. Angst
She always knew that they weren’t likely to grow old together. Erza was driven by battle, loved it with the same intensity that she loved her. To ask her to stop might have saved her life, but it would have broken her soul. As a child Erza had seen the darkness of the world in a way Lucy could not begin to imagine, and for the rest of her life she had carried a burning need to battle that darkness. Lucy understood, and so every time Erza readied herself for another battle in some far away place, every time Lucy could not join her at least, all she would do was kiss her goodbye, and stand in the doorway silently trying to memorize the way the sun caught her hair and set it ablaze.
She did this so that when the day came when Erza did not come back, only a bloody and broken sword carried by a mourning friend, Lucy did not feel the hollow emptiness she had seen in the faces of so many grieving wives. All she had to do was close her eyes, and she could feel that flame still burning bright in her heart.
Even all her tears could not douse that scarlet blaze.
