The Gates reunion was great. I've been there a few times for Jess, so the shock wasn't as profound as for some people, but I'm still constantly amazed at how small that place is. I got to see all my old teachers except my kindergarten one (whose name I can't even remember) and Mr. Hildabran. Mrs. Gale is still amazing, I remember the time when my family went skiing and I got to live with her for a week which was great, I'm so sad Jess won't get her as she is retiring. I also got to remember 2nd grade when I met Rob, and Me, Geoff, and Phil explored the whole school, reminiscing. We then went out onto the play ground and I fulfilled a life goal to finally climb on top of the monkey bars. We went on the swings for a while, then decided to try and walk to Douglas, but got turned back when the bridge flooded. We then went to say goodbye to Mr. Palavras which was really touching. He joked how in his entire career he could only think of a handful of students he wished had gone to Douglas. Then he gave us all M&M's, and said it was for all the birthday's he missed, (you have to be from Gates to know how awesome that gift is.)
Gates was a really tough time for me, I was socially inept, no one understood my disability, and I struggled greatly. But at the same time, some of the most amazing things in my life happened there, one of the most important being that I met Rob, Josh, Phil, and Matt, some of the best friends a guy could ask for. I also had amazing teachers, and support from everyone.
So, always remember what you learned in kindergarten, show you got that Gate's School pride, and once and a while check under your lunch tray, you never know when you might find a sticker.
